PRESS RELEASE
PLANS TO START FAWLEY YOUTH CLUB
Debbie Elliott, the Fawley Parish Youth and Community Worker, has been working closely with Fawley Parish dedicated Police Community Support Officer, Bev Hayes, to combat youth anti-social behaviour.
Debbie and Bev have liased on numerous projects, including the Junior Police Community Support Officers, and their work is making a big difference!
Their latest initiative is to start a New Youth Club at Jubilee Hall, Fawley. Debbie has been working closely with local resident and former Youth Club Leader, Mary Stoker, and the club will open for the first time on 22 April 2010.
Debbie and Bev are aware of the problems that historically dominate youth clubs and, together, will be operating a zero tolerance to anti-social behaviour on club nights, and will ban those that cause problems.
However, Debbie and Bev can only be successful dealing with anti-social behaviour with the help of
the public. So, if you spot any anti-social behaviour, please don't hesitate to contact them. Their
telephone numbers are Debbie 02381 780025 or 07591641112, or Bev 08450454545.
Hythe and Blackfield Health Centres have started a healthy walks group from the surgery on Monday mornings at 10am. The walks are open to everyone, whether they are a registered patient or not.

The council have requested that people owning properties adjacent to highways ensure that no hedgerows are overhanging.
Take control of your driving future
Older motorists have a wealth of experience, confidence and tolerance. However sight, reaction times, judgement of speed and distance won't be as sharp as it once was. Fragility increases with age, so injuries tend to be more serious and recovery takes longer, the chance of surviving an accident is much lower.
The County Council's Older Driver Skills Scheme aims to find ways of helping older people drive safely for as long as they are fit to do so, rather than taking measures to prevent them from driving at all.
It's ideal for people who've been driving for years and want to update their skills or gain confidence; those recovering from illness or injury; those advised on health grounds; people returning to driving or finding it difficult to adapt to a new car.

Waterside Goodneighbours
"CAN WE HELP YOU"
We are six months into a new scheme along the Waterside, covering an area between Marchwood through to Calshot. After carrying out a survey of need, it was confirmed that a Goodneighbour Scheme is very much needed in the Waterside area. Age Concern New Forest East worked in partnership with Hampshire Voluntary Care Groups "Neighbourcare", and helped the local people to get this project established. The scheme was launched on 26th March 2008 at a special event in the Hythe and Dibden Community Centre, Brinton Lane, Hythe. Many people attended to support the founder members and helped us to highlight and promote this worthwhile project.
There are many people in the community whop are socially isolated and in need of assistance from time to time with what are, to most of us, simple tasks like shopping, picking up prescriptions or posting a letter. We believe that, by bringing back the neighbourly touch, it will improve the local community and help those disadvantaged because of lack of social contact.
Waterside Goodneighbours has been funded this year with the support of the Lloyds TSB Foundation for England and Wales, and a part-time paid Co-ordinator was recruited. Volunteering for Waterside Goodneighbours could not be easier. A database of Volunteers has been created showing what type of assistance each one is happy to give; this allows the Co-ordinator to match up requests for help with the right volunteer. Full support is given and no Volunteer will ever be expected to carry out any task they feel unhappy about.
The scheme has already enhanced the current Age Concern New forest East Befriending Service, which is always heavily dependant upon new Volunteers to keep up with demand. Volunteers have come forward to help with a wide range of tasks and those willing to drive clients to Hospital and doctors appointments have had their details added to the Hythe or Fawley Car Care Schemes, already in operation along the Waterside, so we are all working together to meet the many needs. The daily requests through our Co-ordinator are continuing to increase as word is reaching those vulnerable people who are in need of assistance.
All Volunteers have their references checked and CRB clearances before their induction meeting, and Social events for the Volunteers are held to help them feel part of a team and meet others, who, like themselves, very much wish to help their neighbour.
The Co-ordinator is the first point of contact and will ensure that both Volunteer and clients are safe in the knowledge that they are being well cared for.
We are more than happy to give talks to groups who wish to support us in any way.
